Cardinal Tales Staff

The Spring Valley Scandal Sheet, published under the direction of Mr. Collins, enjoyed a very successful year. This year seven issues were published with Kathi Madson, Mike Reid as Editors. Working in the Cardinal Tales staf developes a "nose for news" as well as gaining practical experience.

Seniors

G.A.A.

The G.A.A. was engaged in many athletic activities again this year. Theyheld interclass tournaments, with the senior class coming out on top. The officers were: President Judy Thompson, Vice President Judy F. Olson, Secretary Darlene Lynum, Program Co-chairmen Ruth Gilbertson &  Janet Ducklow

Drill Team

This year's Vallettes consisted of twenty-two members. They performed at many football and basketball games, at a P.T.A. meeting, and a pep meeting.

New outfits, consisting of black derbies, black canes, and black trim on their original outfits, brought a welcomed change. Many favorable comments were heard about the group.

Seniors - Class of '60

A Note from Bonnie: I was chosen Homecoming Queen that year. What an honor that was for a little girl from a very poor family!! Lucky I had the bridesmaid dress from my sister's wedding to wear -- no money for a new dress.

A note from SHA-NAN of River Falls, Wis.:

  Wes Wentlandt

ÒI was hunting high and low for the attached photo after seeing the horse and goat-wagon photos. I couldnÕt find it; you know, it is in that special place in the house where everything else goes so I wonÕt forget. ÊÊÊÒI was at my grandparentsÕ house today and borrowed their photo. ÊÊÊ

ÒMy dad didnÕt grow up in St. Paul, but on a farm in Spring Valley, Wisconsin. My grandmother took the photo of my dad, Wes, and his ducklings. No need for professionals here; my Grandma Helen created her own works of art! ÊÊÊ

ÒI hope you can share it with our fellow BBers. My dad turns 64 today. Happy birthday, Dad!Ó

The Little Treasures
From SHA-NAN in River Falls:

Wes Wentland and his brother, Butch

I donÕt have a picture of the car that my Uncle Butch and my dad, Wes, used, but I have a great photo of them when they were 4 and 6 back in 1948. This is just around the time that my Grandma Helen asked them to go out to the field to pick potatoes. They didnÕt walk out to the field or use the tractor; oh, noÉthey used the car to get out to the field, pick the potatoes and bring them back to the yard.
When they returned, my grandma found a dent in the car! Both boys got in major trouble, and tears were still flowing when Grandpa Cub came home that day. When Grandma told Grandpa what had happened, he admitted that he had put the dent in the car and hadnÕt told her!
ÒMy dad celebrated his 65th birthday on June 6th!! Happy birthday! Now he doesnÕt even like driving on gravel roads if he can help it let alone driving in the fields to pick potatoes!Ó
