Gary Madson

Gary and Mary Madson

While I don't have any family photos - our family is spread all over the USA - I think it might be of interest to many SVHS students - particularly someone carrying a name ending in "son"- to see a picture of a cabin we brought to Bayfield from Norway, my ancestral home.
Several SVHS classmates have visited the cabin which we built in 2000. I have a cousin in Norway deeply involved with a company near the home town of my Grandmother Madson there which builds these cabins and he wanted to export one to the USA. We had some land overlooking Lake Superior just North of Bayfield and 10 years ago he shipped a hand-hewn log cabin of the style and type my Grandmother lived in before she came to the USA as a teen-ager. It is as authentic as can be, and has eight inches of soil on the roof with bluegrass sod on top of that. And, yes, we mow the roof just as we do the lawn around the cabin. While we live in Virginia, Bayfield is a wonderful place to enjoy much more pleasant, cooler, summer weather, and we do.
We invite persons with Sping Valley roots to visit us there whenever their travels take them to the Bayfield area. And many have. We look forward to others' visits.
